Simply, it focuses on life as it is, in your own environment, where you are already making your precious memories. I love to capture natural images of your baby (or babies, if you’re a mum of multiples like me!) in your home. My favourite thing about lifestyle newborn photography is capturing the wonder and joy between family members— there is so much love in the air, so much excitement about this spectacular new human being. Memories of this time can often be a blur for the parents, which is why I feel these types of ‘natural in-home’ shoots are so important and special. The nursery you spend hours staring at your feeding newborn in, your baby’s tiny and wrinkly fingers and toes, the look on Daddy’s face when your baby falls peacefully asleep on his chest. All of these tiny, fleeting moments are the ones I want you to remember for the rest of your lives.
The best time to do a newborn photography session is before they turn 2 weeks old. At this age, they still curl up into a cute little ball (making for great photos), and spend most of their time giving gorgeous milk drunk sleepy faces. However, that’s just a guide, beautiful pictures come at any age, and we can do a session beyond 2 weeks if that suits you better (I know that not all babies come straight home from hospital with their parents either).
I don’t use props or bring any particular clothing or wraps – your baby is perfect just the way he/she is. Using your own items makes the images even more sentimental, and the memories of this incredible time so much more authentic.
Please, no. I capture your family in an authentic way – documenting you as you are. My aim is to capture connections – the giggles between siblings, the warm hugs between parent and child – these moments makes for the best captured memories. So while I give some direction to create the beautiful images you are after, there is minimal posing so your images will remain timeless
The location you choose is an important part of the session planning, and I’m here to help find the perfect spot for you. It’s really dependant on what setting you like – a beautiful green forest, a glorious sunset, a local park, beachside, urban or country. The setting is up to you, and I can help guide you on finding the best location to suit you, if you don’t already have something in mind. It can even be at home in the backyard! Some locations outside of Brisbane attract a small travel fee.
I’ll meet you at your desired location and spend a little bit of time talking to you and your kids – this helps the little ones warm up to the idea of what’s happening and feel comfortable. Worried that someone is a bit camera shy? They may love the camera or…not so much. That’s why I make my sessions relaxed and fun – and the moments just happen! With three little ones of my own, I know a few tricks to get them smiling. And I’m not too proud to make a fool of myself to get what I need out them! (Note: It may involve terrible off-key singing and bad faces).
